Equipment and classroom concept

At the PbG the classroom acts as the “3rd teacher”. This means that the furniture, equipment and layout of the classrooms are not designed for normal lecture-style lessons. At the PbG, faithful to the “school in motion” motto, the children learn in a flexible classroom environment. Each child has a triangular table with an integrated caster, which they can easily move around the room by themselves. Furthermore they have ergonomic, adaptable chairs, which enable children in mixed-age groups to interact at the same eye level. The static blackboard has been replaced by a flexible board system. Small boards with different surfaces, such as pin or white pen surfaces, can be hung on the walls by two rails at different heights. The latter ensures that even younger students can carry these boards and use them. In order to give the PbG’s  “school in motion” motto and concept sufficient room, all classrooms have a minimum size of 48 square meters.

All the materials remain in the school, where every child has their own drawer in the classroom. All exercises are completed at school so no child has to carry a heavy school bag.

New media are incorporated into lessons right from the start. Each classroom is equipped with 3 PCs. The students are shown how to work with a PC correctly and can acquire a “computer driving license” specially designed for children. Generally, these computers are used as a complementary means to search for and collect information.
